Andy, didn't we already have this discussion prior to you picking your car up?

To expand on Alex's comments. There is a difference between putting an engine under load and revving the nuts off it. Putting the engine under load is also as much about deceleration as acceleration.

To be honest, it's not going to make a massive difference. The engine will most likely be bulletproof no matter what you do. Just let everything get warmed up first (not just when running in)

Next topic: What's the best oil to use

Oh, just to add that sitting on the driveway idling from cold isn't good for all kinds of reasons (condensation evaporation and subsequent emulsification in the engine oil for one, plus you'll still have cold gearbox/transfer case/axles and oil). Start up, let the oil pressure settle (about as long as it takes to get comfy and put on your seatbelt) and then drive off.

Freshly rebuilt performance engine, not a new production one. Also what is his background to be offering that advice, is he warrantying hundreds of thousands of engines a year,is he part of a team of development engineers who have spent millions of pounds and hundreds of hours perfecting a product? If Suzuki say be gentle for the first 600 miles, be gentle for the first 600 miles and even thereafter don't immediately start treating it like a top fuel motor. Give it a chance, treat it like you want it to last for 200000 miles and it will.
