Kielder 4x4 Safari 10/02/19

So, for my maiden greenlaning trip in Quasi I decided to do the Kielder 4x4 Safari with my friend Andrew in his TD5 Disco.

The day started ominously with thick fog just south of Longtown, and I was driving by memory until we got past Newcastleton onto the Kielder road where obviously my memory failed and I missed the turn off. We still got there in time for breakfast and I discovered an amusing road that needs to be driven in a lower car than a Jimny.

Not a massive turn out, 1 Defender, 3 Disco 2s, 2 Disco 3/4, an Ewok , Wrangler and me. Add on the 3 guides and the mountain rescue Defender it made a nice little convoy.

The morning consisted of a trip round the reservoir on mainly gravel tracks with a few wet muddy ones, Andrew had a few moments in the mud as he was on road tyres, Quasi's all terrains never missed a beat.
The afternoon was a bit more challenging as there was more of the muddy stuff but again Quasi ate it all up, one of the land Rovers fell off the road behind me at one point but managed to get himself back on before the winch arrived.. The only issue I had for the whole day was driving down Land Rover width ruts in a Jimny width erm Jimny, it was a bit of a fight at times

I reckon we did about 50 - 60 miles off road in total, and knowing the money goes to the mountain rescue team I think it was £65 well spent . I've now got a better idea of what I want to do to Quasi (underbody protection, comfy seats, proper recovery points)
I can see this getting expensive

I've posted some videos on YouTube, not the most exciting..

Thanks for posting, it's a good way for novice drivers to get a safe introduction to lanes.

Kielder is a great place to do it.

Money raised goes to mountain rescue.....

No negatives....

Looks like fun and novice-friendly. I'll have to book to get on one of these.
