How to rerun vacuum system? was created by Dancasey
Found a split pipe for my vacuum system to engage 4x4, so I decided I'm gonna run new pipes instead (prefer a simple button over having manual hubs installed) However, I'm not too certain on the run/where to connect new pipes etc.

Does anyone have or know of any diagrams/tutorial type things that could help me?

Thanks

Dan

You could just follow the old ones and run new lines to make a direct fit or put a wanted ad on this forum to see if someone can sell you some good originals to make it s quick swap.

I have quite a strong view that there are too many ways the vacuum system can go wrong and therefore advocate ditching them in favour of manual hubs. I understand what you are saying about having to get out to lock them but you can just leave them locked if you are going to need them locked for a while. Then it is still push button, just reliable push button!

I have fixed hubs that have no means to unlock and it's not doing my Jimny any harm. In fact the old SJ's only ever had free-wheeling hubs as an option, so many drove around with their front hubs permanently locked, just like my Jimny.

It's up to you but I'm glad I ditched my vacuum hubs.

You can lock your hubs up for next to free if you follow my guide at the top of the Technical section.

Cable tying the new pipes to the remains of the old ones is going to be your easiest option. I've never has issues with the vacuum system but I've always felt it is worth fixing if it goes wrong, especially since I have modified mine to allow 2wd in low range.

Seconded. I could not put it better.
I am one of those that had an SJ for 20+ years and I always had the hubs engaged. It is the best route.

So, can I just leave manual hubs locked at all times and it won't damage the system etc?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge

yes, as long as you select 4x4 only when on a loose (non grippy) surface, the only drawback is very slightly increased fuel consumption as the wheels will be turning the front diff and prop.

Jimny transfer boxes do not have a central diff, so should only be used in 4x4 on loose surfaces to avoid damage to the transfer box.

.

Absolutely. Jimny Bits sell the right manual hubs for the Jimny new. The old ones unbolt with the right torx bit and the new ones bolt on with a bit of instant gasket under them.

The gasket, is it to prevent dirt and the like getting in? Also is the torx bit something I can buy from halfords?

If you don't have any torx you will find a set useful as there will be a lot of other jobs needing them and yes you can get them from Halfords or online
