Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.

Assuming that I buy a decent quality bar of an appropriate size to fit neatly between the roof rails, am i going to have a significant increase in wind noise with it up there or would it be better off in the bumper? Also what is a reputable brand to look for?

The LED lights in the bumper/foglamp position look very smart but will put out no ware near the light output of a light bar.
It depends what your are after, looking cool or maximum light.
My 20" light bar puts out 10500 lumen or roughly the same as 7 standard headlamps.

My 2 penneth worth:
Lights below your eyeline cast visible shadows behind bumps and undulations in the terrain, making rough ground easy to spot. If the lights are above your eyeline you cannot see any shadows and rough ground is much harder to read. For driving off-road at any sort of speed you want the lights on the bumper (e.g. where the headlights and driving lights are). For lighting up big areas you aren't necessarily driving quickly through (checking sheep at night?) you want the lights as high as possible e.g. on the roof.

I'm with Busta really.......how about a lightbar in round acrylic tube on the roof?
I have some 8" HID spotlights that'd look pretty up there.....
I think....only think mindst....an led light bar can be fitted as a pop up affair at the rear of the bonnet without a bodylift.

Well I am looking to go round the north coast 500 east to west one weekend in October which is a fairly serious drive and at that time of year means plenty of night driving on nasty little lumpy back roads. So bumper or fog replacement . Cheers all

I've got a 20" wilderness lighting light bar on the front bumper of my l200. Couldn't be happier with the light output, beam pattern and build quality, but it wasn't as cheap as the rubbish eBay ones on the back. Oh and it's E marked as a type approved driving light, but that's another can of worms.

I am sure that the ones on the roof would give you a better all round light pattern but a roof mounted one would
get hit too much on mine without some sort of protection. Mounted in the front bumper still does a fine job and its
a little more protected as mine is in the recess of the bumper. Not sure but I think I found some info when looking
for mine that 20" is the largest you can go if you want it wired to come on with main beam for road use.

Another thing about roof lights that they can also light up your bonnet, so vision into the darker areas beyond that is compromised

And things on the roof get hit by branches. And they make wind noise. And you have to drill holes in your car to get power up there. It's generally a bit of a silly place to put lights. Bumper lights are definitely the way forward.
I've always fancied some little spot lights in the wing mirrors for lighting up the verge immediately in front of and beside the car.
