were moving to the country in a couple of months to a house down a farm track so lots of potholes and mud when it rains and a fire road on the way to my work.
I'm wanting to make our jimny a bit more off road capable but not go too mad.
what should I go for?
its got yoko geolander a/t tyres just now but that's all

To be honest the Jimny is very good in standard trim. The Geolanders are fine for most jobs.
My girlfriend has them on her one and manages to follow me most places offroad. ;)
In the end i just head for deep mud, it seams to be the only thing that stops her.

Probably all you need but if you wanted to do more maybe some kind of locker in the back would be the most practical in terms of not getting stuck but from what you've said if it's just tracks you'll be fine as is. Beware the mods get addictive!

Are you gonna use it much on road? Is it just for fun or work related?

You'll come a long way just by fitting a rear locker and getting some MT tyres. Consider BFG KM2 or Maxxis Trepador.

Also, if work related and driving many km's both on and offroad, consider getting an ARB air locker. More expensive than the cheaper Lockright. But much more comfortable.

www.jimnybits.co.uk/shop/jimny/drivetrai...locker/prod_282.html

Consider getting an ARB locker from continental europe. Much cheaper than buying from UK. Of course shipping is a bit more expensive. But you should be able to save around £150

Almost.
It is locked when torque is applied to the rear axle, as in gear and clutch is engaged. Meaning that roundabouts and sharp corners needs to be taken with clutch depressed.

Errr really? I don't think that is right. Not for an arb? Or anything else for that matter?

Of course it doesn't apply to the arb locker. But it does to the lockright.
