Err not wishing to cause consternation in your plans but Dreadnaught weighs in at 1160 kg in working trim. Obviously 2 very different vehicles but I'm surprised Tread Lightly is not noticeably less.

No consternation at all Lambert, I'm happy to be under the norm after fitting the steel work..... I can see why my car would be heavier than yours to start, tyres will be a big contribution....

Bad news on the exhaust front... the swift manifold will snag the engine mounts and is not worth the trouble of messing with....

Jackonlyjack kindly lent me his 4-2-1 manifold to use as a pattern, when modifying the Swift one. The only chance I had of keeping my slot at the exhaust place tomorrow, was if Jack wanted to sell his manifold. I asked and sadly he doesn't, very much a long shot, he had to import it from Australia I believe. If I had gone to that trouble I would hang on to it as well....

Jack also put me onto an exhaust firm called NUW in Chesterfield, It was when I visited their shop for a quote that it became evident that the swift manifold idea, was a bone one... Very nice chaps and came away with a quote that looks fair when you look at their work.

Some more options to find before I make my mind up.....

The negative trend has continued..... The starter motor solenoid failed closed which meant a direct short to the battery, the sort of thing that melts wires and causes under bonnet fires.

The starter motor cable had previously failed due to corrosion at the battery terminal, this had been repaired with a patch lead being soldered to the starter cable and then bolted to the battery terminal. I expressed concern at the time that the cable used was much smaller than the existing item, the mechanic told me that it was some super expensive audio power cable and that it was more then up to the job....

Well, thankfully, he was wrong..... The patch lead burnt through as if it were a fuse and saved the main loom from damage.

Very close to loosing the car, if the wiring had been factory normal, it would have caught fire for sure......

A visit to a mobile auto spark who lives in our village and the starter has been swapped with all the wiring checked over and a proper repair done to the starter cable.....

A pair of new horns and a CB radio (CRT One) fitted while it was there......

Part of the gear that you need to carry when off road trialling is a 2.5kg powder extinguisher, ironically on the shopping list but not yet sourced..... best crack on with that....

In to see Doc & Reece at the workshop today, a couple of little bits to tie up. Fog light & indicator resistors....

I have ordered the same 4-2-1 exhaust manifold as Jack, it will be here from Australia in a few weeks. I will be getting a system built as soon as it arrives...

Takes a couple of minutes to put the whole of the old intake back on, I think I would do that for the day when out on a wet drive......
