Looking good. Are you painting everything yellow and then adding some contrasting components like they do with tractors and heavy plant or are just certain bits being yellow like the cage?

Umm, most of it will be yellow I think, black arches, tyres, alloy wheels and some zinced bits, chassis is grey, additions to the chassis are black (the rear winch tray and spare wheel mount)... I was thinking the 'cage' would be black over the yellow body, but then the elliptical diagonal tubes joing the body to the rear loop, and the halo loop flows out of the body fairly seamlessly... so it will be mostly yellow, I think...?

Little side project, that MAY be fitted to the buggy in the future...

Yes, it's a rocklobster box, and no, I wan't going to fit one, as the diffs have been changed to compensate for the bigger tyres, and it was supposed to be a cheap and simple project (apart from transforming the body into a buggy)... but this came up at the right price, so I couldn't say no, could I? ;)

So it's had a bed bath in gunk after I finished painting, and I've found my old (end of a prop UJ) template to redrill the rear output flange to dual holes, i.e. add the 10mm flange holes on...

And then it'll sit on a shelf in the garage until I see what the gearing is actually like...

The original transfer box is currently sat in a custom cradle -

So I'm loathe to change it, but I am a little worried that the low gearing won't be low enough? But I keep watching 'fairly standard' Jimnys following us on our 'laning trips and always wonder if I / we take things too far, so the idea is / was to see how a normal transfer box performs for a greenlaning buggy? B)

So if anyone desperately wants a 'lobster box and the price is right, "everything's for sale" at the right price ;)

A million and one things on my mind these days, as the buggy progresses...

The other day the Jimny Jaunts group were discussing CBs. On our WhatsApp group, and my mind turned to that... where to put the antenna bracket on the rear hoop, etc...

Lots of though later...

So the postman just delivered this... an earpiece and microphone for my handheld CB! My thought processes were -

Some of the group suffer with radio loss now and again, be it antennas lost to trees, microphones failing, power to the CB going, my handheld (used to be my backup, or was lent to others when they lost contact) has never let me down...

Would I hear a normal CB? Even with an extension speaker, it would be hard to hear it in an open buggy? So my mind went to a headset, and then that lead on to using the handheld!

Security is the other issue... I can’t lock the buggy, but I can keep the handheld on my person...

Sorted! B)

Also in the post today...

With THANKS to Keithy, ... a set of his bonnet vents! B)

Good timing, as I should be back on the front in a couple of weeks... by then a pair of struts and brackets (which will need tweaking!) should have arrived from overseas too...

It’s all coming together!

A break from the shop this afternoon, so I was having a tinker in the garage...

This is the template I use for re-drilling flanges... it's the end off an old prop...

This the other end of it (out of the slip joint) I kept this as I was strangely proud of it?! :woohoo:

Onto the pillar drill...

And we have a dual hole prop flange... 8mm and 10mm holes added ;)

Better go and walk the Labradors! ;)

The engineer in me is having a bit of a fit that those holes have broken through! The farmer in me on the other hand sees nothing wrong at all.

LOL

It’ll be fine... they can’t go anywhere ;)

Besides, the bolts are location / clamping, the prop / flange faces are indexed and friction holds them together...

Hmmm, some BluTac and Gaffa tape too?!
