My Attempt At An Overland Trailer was created by JerseyJimny
I am planning on making a Overland Trailer from scratch early next year (2014) once i have moved into a new place with abit more garage room! :D

I have researched designs for a while now and have finally started to design mine

Originally i am looking at something along these lines...

But with everything hidden away in storage

Anyway... After a few hours of messing around in Google Sketch-Up i hae come out with this....

Designs may chance but this is the basics (with out much details) of how i want it to look like

Nice find :)

Mine will have a roof top tent too (hopefully)

Its going to take a while to make... mainly because i am planning in making the panels out of aluminum to make the trailer as lightweight as possible... So it will take a while for me to save up for the sheets of ali...

The frame is going to be made out of 50x50mm and 25x25mm box section to make it as strong as possible to take the weight of two adults and a week worth of camping equipment

The trailer is going to have:

Built-in Gas plumbing for two propane or butane bottles that supply a dual hob gas burner
Batteries for both 12v and 230v power supply as well as lighting for lighting up the camp site and lighting up the inside of the trailer
An CB Radio with a small aerial tower for effective Base to Vehicle comms
A front toolbox with sealed storage of x2 20L Jerry cans (Or x1 20L Jerry Can & x1 20L Water Can)

A quick update on this.... I am still planning on doing this but a Sankey Trailer has come up cheap where the tub is completely rotten but the frame is solid so I will be building on this instead... This dose mean that the trailer will he wider then the car but it will be off road ready

One main reason I am using the Sankey is cost. All the running gear and basic frame is going to cost me at least £500 if not more where this Sankey is costing me about £50

Everything except from the basic frame and running gear will be chucked and weight saved by using my own design to build a new tub...

Also I will be replacing the bow springs with softer ones which will cost me £30 a side

Cost is a big problem for me so this option seems the best

That was my first thought too.

JJ - how heavy do you think that it will when finished and loaded?

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.
