The Norwegian meet is coming up.
25-27 August, Svarstad southern Norway, short trip from several ferry ports.
(no ferries from Norway to Britain anymore sadly)
I will be attending as it is only a short trip of approx. 8 hours drive.

Please reply if any translation is needed or other questions.

Haven't been any ferries from UK to Norway for years (DFDS used to run them from Newcastle)
However....there is currently talk of an as yet undisclosed company opening up a route to Norway from North Shields....I personally am watching this development with bated breath.....

Well don't forget who your mates are.....I wouldn't mind a spot of touring in Norge.....don't have a single word of the language though.........although from what I've seen online they have a better grasp of the English language than 90% of us...

No problem, MATE........I worked over there for two years, and despite sounding like I've a mouthful of cold porridge, I have a bit if the lingo   Need an extremely fat wallet for an extended visit, though !!!

Pictures will come..
I am also hoping for these ferries to return. Smyril Line stopped coming to Norway making a trip to Iceland very expensive and time consuming. Have to go via Denmark to get to Iceland now. So disappointed that we did not buy Iceland when it was bankrupt and for sale. Iceland was a part of Norway before you know, and Scotland too.

Touring the prettiest parts of Norway is possible on a lowish budget. You can camp out in the wild if you set up your tent more than 150 meters from someones house, yard or company grounds. And stay off farm land. And we have a lot of space. The most popular places like Lofoten, Geiranger, Prekestolen can be overcrowded during tourist seasons in my opinion, but i live in rural Norway so i am not used to crowds.. Many hidden gems that you can have more for yourself still.
most Norwegians speak good enough english to help you. But we tend to be a bit on the silent side i guess :)

As for the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree, it is a traditional gift from the mayor of Oslo to the good people of Britain going back to WWII. Started in 1947 as a thank you for your help during the war.
Usually chopped down in the forests and parks around Oslo and shipped to London from Oslo.
It is usually in the news here when it is chopped and shipped.
My aunty was actually Mayor of Oslo some years back so she was in London for the lighting ceremony a couple of years.
Think that was one of the times Greenpeace used the tree to protest against our whaling. (Got some in my freezer)
Yes, Norway is a small country :)

Tried googling this but i may have jugged up my memory here.. Norwegian environmentalists used the tree once to protest.
Doesn't matter, it is prolly a personal record for me being off topic. :)
Hoping this years tree will look better than the 2016 tree!

The Carry can come too :)

Not Grimstad, but closer to us in Svarstad. Just an hour south of Drammen.
