Vacneb's Jimny

Well, had the Jimny a fortnight, lasted until today before the desire to 'do stuff' to it had to be satisfied - 2" lift and different wheels/rubber:

Aye mate, it was me (eventually .. after being lost for 30mins trying to find him!) Was a fun trip back with a bumper strapped onto a makeshift roofrack back up north!

We headed to Bakewell for food after being at Vit-Mad'sthen it was about 3 1/2 for us too.

The only other thing I have that would carry 5 wheels and a bumper is a Landy 90, and that makes the Jimny feel like a limo! Have to admit, was a hideously slow journey compared to the time I would have done in my last car!

Lift went really well, not a single siezed bolt! Did have to take the calipers off to get a bit more wiggle space to get the springs in, could have done with a set of compressors really.

How much the lift kit cost to get fitted and does it effect the driving

I fitted the lift myself - I can guess that a price for a garage to fit would be variable depending on how well it went and how long it takes them. It took me about 4-5hrs, but I have never done a lift before, and everything went well. I would hate to think how long it would take if you were dealing with rounded/siezed/sheared bolts.

Was a fairly easy job though, get a kit and have a bash - certainly easier to work on a 4wd than on the MG Midget I last did suspension on!!

Driving wise - a little slow on the return to centre for steering, but nothing of any concern. A teeny weeny bit of a wobble (ney, a pulse at most) at 40mph and a little bit more body roll in the corners - nothing I am not totally easy with! Does give a hell of a presence on the road though, the higer seating position is really welcome!

Bumper wise, cat decide between a chopped original, a KAP plastics jobber or a tubular. Gonna have to be a bolt on one until I brush up my welding again - long time since I last brandished a MIG set!!
