hiya guys
basically i bought a jimny and the rust in the boot was beyond patching so i cut the boot out and have got a new plate to weld into place and replace it, because the boot is now flat it will be tricky to put the seats back in so i will just use it as a 2 seater BUT who will i have to inform about this inorder to get the jimny on the road and insured as a 2 seater?
thankyou

There is nothing on the V5 doc thats states the number of seats so there is nothing to tell the DVLA.
However your insurance company will need to be informed and they may refuse to insure you if they are a mainstream insurer
I was with Admiral and they didnt like the fact I had removed the back seats. So I moved to a 4x4 specialist.

Not wishing to be pedantic, but I was going to remove the back seats in my Jimny for the sake of the dog. The insurer said I would need to tell them if I went ahead and also inform the DVLA as it is a reportable field on the V5C, otherwise in case of a claim they would need to consider their position as the vehicle as recorded at DVLA would be different to the one insured. By the way attached link to DVLA re change of details. (I decided to leave the seats in and cover them up for the dog.GuardianAngel wrote: There is nothing on the V5 doc thats states the number of seats so there is nothing to tell the DVLA.

I asked Adrian flux when I took mine out & they said it doesn't affect my cover & also sent me a letter stating this. As with regard to DVLA as far as I'm aware you only have to report permanent changes, so if you say you're planning to put them back in, in the future it's not a permanent change. It's safe as its been MOT'd & insured for 2 seats so what's the problem ? That's my view anyway.

My MOT simply stated a couple of advisories -
1). Passenger seat (s) missing at time of test
2). Rear seat belts not tested due to vehicle being modified and rear seats not fitted at time of test
agree with Dan, as mine's not a permanent change and can be refitted in a couple of hours
