Hey peep's.

Finally had some dry weather and time too take some pictures! After many years of working for my father refurbishing and replacing gearboxes in landrover's, I finally decided to dodge the bullet and go for a Suzuki instead:)

Picked up the lil rascal around a month ago from a Jimny specialist in Staines for £1900 with 90,000 miles, 3 month engine and drive warranty and a very rust free chassis and body.
Went to my local scrap yard the other day to grab a relay for the spot lamps and came across an SJ with a set of +1 inch wheel spacers and all the extended studs. Well after a lot of swearing and attempts to stop the hubs rotating I finally managed to remove them. Paid a tenner for the set in the end :woohoo:

Damp grass is a 4wd nemesis. You would be hard pressed to cross wet grass in the most extreme 4x4s.

Evening all Not got a great deal done to the Ruki this weekend. Mainly due to xmas shopping, that and the sub arctic temperatures... Attempted to get the bumper spot lights working, but to no avail. Replaced the corrode wiring,relay and connections and still no glow. The bulbs seem to be in working order but there is nothing else to replace so im thinking new bulbs are in order.
Failing that, im keen to try trimming the bumper back a bit for a little more clearance, and relocating some new spots onto a roof bar. Was up chalk pit lane the other evening and after a brief slide into a chalky rut the front bumper caught and made a bit of a mess. :blush:

Has anybody here ever trimmed the standard bumper back for a little more clearance?

Been trying too fix a few problems and niggle's today. Recently developed an overnight creak on the nearside front suspension. Cured this with a little bit of cleaning and silicone greasing. Turned out too be the arb twisting in its bush.

Second problem was a noticable sticky valve/tappet when cold. Changed the oil/filter today and seems to have shut the little tappety bugger up:)

Then today something rather peculiar occurred. Whilst going for one of my twice a week amble's up Chalkpit Lane (Goodwood, West Sussex) as I neared the top the little rascal started to get a bit hot, never ever done it before today despite being even colder than usual. Stopped and let it cool, checked all the obvious things such as belts, fan, rad and coolant level and all was ok. It was a lot muddier than usual though.

It's always the way mate, just as you get one thing fixed another problem rears its head, touch wood I have been fairly lucky with the Jimny so far but have had the same with previous cars.

As for the overheating, is the rad covered in mud by any chance? This would impart the cooling quite a bit. I did read somewhere about soaking it over night in a tray of water to get mud out from the fins.

Gonna give the rad a good clean on sunday. Dont want too do too much too it at the moment as its still got 1.5 months warranty left on the engine/gearbox. Only issue is the garage is a good 80 miles away, so im doing all i can without voiding the remaining warrant. They where happy for me to do an oil/filter swap and clean the rad and replace the fan belt, but im taking it up there in 2 weeks for a good going over. No point going all the way there for a belt and some oil.

Weird thing with the cooling issue is its only up hill :blink: Can leave it sat idling for a good hour or until you get bored and the temp rises a fraction of the gauge, but no more than a car should do. My old man left his old sj idling in his barn/workshop accidently one evening, was sat for near as 24 hours and was still going strong the following evening!

iv nearly rebuilt my hole truck thanks to the fact of i fix one thing and some thing else is wrong :lol: stick with it mines only waiting on tyres and MOT now (and yes iv got my hand firmly on my wooden table) :lol:
