Cool standard truck essentially. Mines a special on the same tyres too.

Tyres and recovery equipment were the 1st things i bought, more important than lifts etc...

I'm interested in the size of the right hand flight case and if you could fit 2 of the same next to each other. I've seen storage solutions before but something i can take out easily would be better.

Next time I'm driving round Stoke I'll know whats under your sheet lol.

The larger flight case came complete as a tool kit from Argos (about 6 years ago but they dont sell them anymore - cost about £30 in the winter sale). The smaller one is one used to store cds in - again from Argos/ Index. They often do a larger one to hold more cds but this is too big to fit in the gap between the door and seat base. Any decent camera suppliers have a selection of flight cases in, or tool suppliers so it may be worth having a nosey. The gap/ well they seat in seems to be the most uncommon size as I've tried all manner of flights cases and moulded tool boxes and none seem to fit, so i kept with the basic tool set and added the second box

As for the rest of me recovery kit - the shovel was 4quid from a cheapy shop, the tow rope I spliced from an old marquee rope at work and added a couple of D shackles I picked up from the local farm supplies. The tow bar was a tenner from good old Lidl. Its done the job on a number of occasions so "if it aint broke why fix it"

As for future mods:

A set of dual grill flashers somewhere on the rear
Dog guard
Possibly window tint/ grill combi for the rear windows
Decent set of recovery eyes at botyh ends - have mangled mine already
Snorkel
Then start on the suspension and bigger rims

Hi Nelson, I love the way you've got you're motor set up. I'm a keen 4x4 Response member and am planning on getting some the EVS' Radiant lightheads with their digital switchpack. Planning on the double lighthead decklight for the rear with a dashlight on the front. I actually quite like your ambers in the lower grille - i had thought they'd be too low and vulnerable to water there. Given we provide transport through the likes of floods i may prefer to mount them in the 'bonnet grille'. Only had the jimny a couple months and have moved out of home so money will be otherwise engaged till the end of the month but got plenty planned! Currently speaking to Mobile storage systems too so watch this space

I was thinking about mounting them on the bumper to start with, but it didnt look right, so i stuck them underneath. I'm planning on getting a set for the rear and thinking that they'll be ok either side of the rear brake light in the window or on the lower edge of the rear window. I've got a mag mount twin flasher for the roof so the grill lights are there more to catch the eye when coming up behind someone. The EVS kit is spot on, however the flashing headlight kit was an absolute pig to fit. I went for the cheapo one first, only to find it didnt alternate the flash pattern, so ended up with

Before i started wiring the lights in i swatted up on the regs for blues and twos, just in case the fuzz decide to pull me. Its a very grey area, and so a little knowledge may stand me in good stead if the fuzz decide i'm looking shifty and decide to pull me

Another useful website www.ukemergency.co.uk/ - to see how the professional set their vehicles up. Its pretty clear to see that they all tend to use the same sorts of things and position their lights in similar locations.

If only I had the winning lottery ticket - my jimny would be light blackpool illuminations :lol:

Well guys after 12 months i thought i'd update on the truck latest, so here goes -

hopefully the link works. To sum it up, i'm slowy building my own "commerical jimny"

The first pic is the concept aka a photo that been tweaked by the wonders of paint to show my initial idea and the rest of the album is whats taken place so far.

The first attempt at vinyling the sides failed as it bubbled and lifted despite using the wet and dry methods of applying the vinyl, but i have a mate who works at a sign writters and she's willing to do a pro job on it (hopefully before xmas). The plan is to use the weld mesh behind the vinyl to provide extra security and also somewhere to hang random bits of baler twine and other odds and sods.

The towbar was next along with the axle breathers, then came the snorkel and belly plate. The shocker guards were next.

In the mean time, ive managed to get a set of steelies (4 came off ebay for 50quid and the 5th came from my local scrappy for 20quid). Fortunately the tyres that were on the steelies are fairly good so, when i have 5 mins they going on ebay. These will one day when funds allow be mated to a set of insa's

Finally the a bar was the last to be fitted. Inspired by dirtydogz black one, ive been on the hunt for one for ages, and then one night after a few too many cans i spotted one on offer on a styling website - this turned out to be a complete joke, as despite placing the order and receiving an order confirmation and expected delivery date, when it failed to arrive and i spoke with them, they told me they were unable to supply one!!! WTF??!!! i even told them they have sent me confirmation, but alass they'd "already emailed me to tell me otherwise" - yeah, sure(!!!!!) so a few nights later and more beer inside me I tracked another one down and made a note of the suppliers details. Then ordered one over the phone the next day and had a definate "yes, we can get one in black from our suppliers in germany, but its gonna take a few weeks". And it arrived

My insurer wouldnt allow me to insure it with these mods, so a quick call to adrian flux, a drop of the Bigjimny forum name and a few quick questions answered, saw me swop insurers and say money when compared to my previous premium with no mods and have legal insurance for my mods

Next on the list:

CB radio
Spots for the a bar and then possibly for the roof
Lift kit and insas on the steelies (cant decide on 2 or 3 inch lift)
Possibly some black side steps
More flashers for the back

Long term

Wouldnt mind a cage and a diff lock in the rear plus a hidden winch, but i've gotta find that beanstalk that Jack climbs for them!!!!

Well fellas, its time i updated everyone on the progress of my truck -

I've just fitted a 3inch Jimnybits lift kit and am very very happy withe result. As can be seen from the pics, I'm now running 235/75/15's Khumos on standard steelie rims. I spent many an hour pondering wheel and lift kit combos, before biting the bullet and ordering the tyres to fit on the steelies that i got from ebay. Whilst waiting for the tyres, i popped over to Russ at Jimnybits and collected my 2 inch lift with castor bushes and then booked it all in at the local garage. Once the tyres had been fitted, I was playing around with them to check for clearance issues, as you do, before discovering they didnt quite fit. A quick call to Russ saw me nip back over and swop things for a 3 inch lift - theres efficient, and then theres Russ when i comes to getting things!!! Cheers Russ :laugh: :laugh:

The garage fitted it all after a few days - dont ask, but the mechanic was adamant that the jimny is the same as a Green ovaler :evil: :evil: :evil: and was cussing when he realised it wasnt

Im very happy with the result, and a quick trip down to the Dorset Steam fair last week allowed everything to settle nicely. Its taken some used to adjusting my driving style - I've been forced to slow down more through corners and change down a gear up long inclines, but for my daily driver im extremely happy.

Next stage of mods might include the following :-

* Roof spots - im up and about at stupid o'clock everyday and need the extra lights

* CB radio - its been on the list for a while, but more important things have come first

*Rear worklamnp/ TW@T lamp to annoy those people who ride my back end in the morning, due to be fitted on the shovel bracket

* Roof tent for future camping trips, but depending on how it sits, i might put that on my ifor P6, i havent decided (thats my latest pondering)
