If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

There isnt an airflow sensor.
The jimny uses a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor, throttle angle sensor and inlet air temperature sensor along with the lambda sensor to make up the fuelling.
The most likely explanations for reluctance to rev are:
Air cleaner blocked
exhaust blocked (catalyst usually, but you say there isn't one) have a look for a flattened pipe, or a clod of mud in the tail pipe.
throttle cable has stretched so much the throttle doesn't open.

A valid question. If he drove a /Scoobie or an Evo then the Jimny will seem sluggish to him

Iv had allsorts nothing super fast though so its not just me it doesnt rev proper at all
