If the crown wheel has lost a tooth. Could it be picked up while going forward but not while in reverse??
Just an idea.

Thats what i was thinking.
Gonna flush it and hopefully find a broken tooth and run with it untill it fails completely

You may want to try one of those magnetic pick ups through the drain hole.

Well had chance to look at it today when i woke up so i fitted rear prop on with its new uj so tranny box is fully mounted now and works bob on.
Diff wise i drained oil and found a few small bits but nothing serious so then stuck a magnetic pen in drain hole a dozen times and found this and luckily thats all.
So jobs left to do
1. fill diff up with oil
2. Clean rear brake adjusters
3. Mount and wire up winch
4. MOT
So 3 non messy jobs but all reasonably simple once iv ordered oil for diff. Just not sure if wires on winch are long enough so need some longer ones with anderson connector to dissconnect when not in use.

Another thing i would be tempted to do woudd be to get a high pressure spray and spray paraffin in through filler hole and catch anything that came out. The oil may act a bit like glue and hold any other loose debris in there.
