Oil leak on front swivels was created by Hawksthorn
My 2001 Jimny has developed a gooey discharge from the off side swivel.
Jacked it up and rocked the wheels small amount of movement etc, similar but less on the otherside.
After reading several threads and how too's looks like Kingpin bearings, as these have worn is it likely that the wheel bearings are coming to the end of their life too?
Is it a no brainer therefore to replace the Kingpin bearings and wheel bearings including seals etc as I am stripping the hubs for the kingpin bearings

?
I am buying bearings all the time through work and sourcing Koyo 30302JR should be straight forward, are the wheel bearings a standard type or is it a Suzuki only part ?

Regards

Dave

The wheel bearings are one piece: what we used to call a cassette bearing. Martin sells replacements in the shop.

You don't need touch the wheel bearings when you do the swivels*, and they are easy enough to do from the outside anyway. If you do change them:

1) you need a 4 pin tool to undo the hub nut.
2) when you replace them the grease will block the tiny air holes for the hubs, check they are clear before refitting the hub by blowing down the spigot tubes.

*split steering knuckles, remove brake calliper, clean swivel housing, undo and remove large seal, remove airpipes, remove swivel pins top& bottom, snatch whole hub off with driveshaft still in.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
