Engages 4wd on it's own was created by beardy
Hey guys, I've only just joined the Jimny club and am so far enjoying the experience :) except for a small problem. When change down a gear, say from 3rd to 2nd sometimes it engages 4wd. I then have to re-engage 2wd. I first thought that I was maybe catching the lever but I've been very careful since and I don't think this is the case.
She also seems to have a vibration at low revs, worst in 2nd. I put this down to maybe transfer case mountings but could they be related?
Any help would be much appreciated as apart from that issue I'm really pleased with my Jimny :)

i should get underneath it and see what wobbles. get a good grip and then try to move it. if there is obvipus movment then the mounts might be loose.

i had an issue where the threads had stripped on the tcase, it vibrated bad, but once fixed it was silky smooth.

if its out of alignment theres a chance the loose movement is knocking the lever into 4wd

Is it an electronicly switched one, maybe it's an electrical issue if it is.

:woohoo: Thanks for the quick reply guys!

It's a 2000 model with the lever so it's not the one with the knob controlled 4wd if thats what you mean?
Could it be wear in the box? It does seem ok otherwise though

it doesnt feel or sound clunky does it?

my first step would be to get under it and poke around there.

it might be a worn box but it will be the first time i have heard of it.

mine pops out of 4wd but thats because i have an sj410 tcase and the level doesn't go far enough forwards.... another thing i need to fix.

It's good you've never heard of one, one of the reasons I went for a Suzuki over a Landy was reliability!
It does feel clunky at all, very smooth in fact. I'll get under it and have a poke about, well as soon as it gets above freezing ;)
