Futureproofing the Jimny

Be interested to hear your views on what you think is the best approach for eradicating rust and keeping the body and chassis in the best condition. Mine is a 2000 model without the benefit of galv, but despite this its in reasonable nick. The usual areas are starting to suffer - boot floor is a bit scabby and behind headlights/engine bay is the same.

Ive got a 2" bodylift to fit and wondered about waxoyling cavities and chassis at the same time as il have more space then. Or is it worth the extra considerable effort to split the body and chassis so I can really get to grips with it.

Appreciate your thoughts guys, I would like to get it right and do a really good job. Ive spent a lot of money on kit and dont wanna lose the Jimny to rust 2 or 3 years down the line.

Mine is 04 so galvo... but its still surffering surface rust in places

I ripped the front end off, and used some scotchbrite to shift the rust. 99% of the rust was on the edge of the sheet material, so i treated it with anti-rust solution... and painted it all in clear waxoyl.

Stopped the rust, but it attracts road grime. The summers job is to rip the old back box off and clean the underside of the boot floor, then paint it all with hammerite underseal... along with the chassis.

Every wash in the winter involves a jet washer with a 90deg bend on the end of the lance... quick blast shifts mud and salt

How much do you want to spend ?
There is a kit that in lamens terms reverse electroplates , a control box is permanetly atached to the steel this box delivers a rust inhibiting current to all the ferous parts of your truck . . . .end result no rust can form
But it can also reduce rust already there

Any ideas on cost and whats involved dale?

Not sure on price but was told "not for the faint hearted" lol
Just power in and power out connections so nothing to hard about fitting

I dont think rust is my problem, its the dints! I'll just reshell it again !

Shes already close to divorcing me for all the money ive spent on it.

Whilst those systems sound like snake oil, there is a well known phenomenon called "negative lead corrosion" that I found out about when I used to build radio controlled models.
Leave them with the battery packs connected, and within a couple of years just the negative lead goes green and manky, and when you cut the end off to resolder, the manky corrosion goes all the way up the wire.

In The Olden Days, cars used to be positive earth, supposedly to reduce corrosion. (It didn't work though)
