Hi,

I have a un-lifted jimny with a large roof basket (Thule 828). Which we use when camping plus towing a small unbraked trailer. The jimny has plenty of power towing and carrying on roof, but does seem a little top heavy going arround corners. . A fellow camper suggested wheel spacers to me, so as to lengthen the track. I have seen 2x types on the internet, Billet and grayston. I have standard alloys, domed wheel nuts, with AT standard sized tyres. Which ones are best suited + will I need to change to open wheel nuts.

I've got the greyston and my jimny drives great with them. Far more stable in the bends.
I fitted mine as I have a big lift and heavy cage with no anti-roll bar, so wanted to widen the track to offset some of the lift.

I have noticed the grayston spacers seem more popularthan billet, are they ok at high`ish B) speeds, e.g. motorways.

My jimny only manages 60 flat out anyway, but no problems with the spacers. I wouldn't dare go that fast without mine due to the lift.

I've got some 32mm alloy spacers on mine and it feels fine although I haven't driven it without them and don't really go above 55mph but have taken it up too 70 with no problems.

Hi mate,
I've got the 32mm Grayson spacers fitted, and its made it a lot better in my opinion. I had the car for about 9 months without them and it jumped all over the road at every little bump, its now quite stable and with the bigger tyres its stable on the motor way at 65-70mph, With my lift and big tyres. So yes I would definitely recommend them to anyone with a Jimny. All so better when off road as its got a wider track and makes it easier to run in the big tracks that the big crappy LR's make.

Thanks
James

Do you need to fit wider arches if you fit spacers (standard AT tyres, steel wheels) ?

Depends on tyres you run but to be "legal" the tread of the tyre should be inside the arch ,
You can fit bushwackers they are simple and cheep to make :-)

Is that safe? Driving without a sway bar?

it just leans more through the corners so you have to go a bit slower but it improves off road ability no end

Also got the 32mm Grayson spacers fitted, and its made it a lot better - so much more stable, both straight line (no more road meandering) and cornering, even the harshness over potholes and speed bumps appears softened.

nah they're OK
