been to look at one today, 04, 54 reg soft-top. Alloys, 45k, FSH, very nice condition but two questions. priced at £3700 is that a bit steep. and the engine has single cam and belt, shouldn't it be twin cam and chain?
cheers

Come back to the darkside!
Rag tops were a bit late to the dohc chain engines.
Theres a lot out there at similiar prices, i'd expect to get it for £3250 personally. Prices are still wildly inconsistent, some places are asking £3700ish for 2 year older cars, just as some at 2004 are 3k!
I imagine those that price high blame the economy on stuff not selling.

Yes, soft-tops had the older engine til late 2004, I guess if you look closely you may find the build date is earlier and it has sat in a compound for a while as some earlier soft-tops got the newer engine.

thanks for that, is the belt engine any worse than the chain engine then? I know I'd prefer a chain from the point of view of belts snapping but is there anything else? more power, economy??
Oh and how bad is the rear door to use on a soft-top, seens a bit of faffing with poppers and zips?
Thanks

For that age, and that mileage on a standard ish Jimny with the SOHC £3200 i'd say. The DOHC would add maybe a grand to the price.
Think carefully about the rag top... it'll be chilly in the winter and alot of people believe the Jap hardtops are built better than the Spanish Softs.
The older engine has something like 2 less bhp, and is generally an older design so may well be worse ecomomy wise. If you have 4k to spend, there is better out there!

As for get into the back it takes about 40 sec to un pop the window there's no need to remove it and just open the door simple.
As for being cold in the winter just turn on the heater.
Only real men and hairdressers  drive soft tops
Get your top off

Yeh ..... but can you do this
if you do want a softy maybe best waiting till Oct/Nov/Dec (maybe someone in the trade can advise better) as once the sun's gone for another 8 months and it's getting chilly, the prices should bottom out, likewise, you wouldn't buy a hard or soft in winter as prices rocket and availability dries up.
also if you're thinking of any mods ....... get a pre-modded one (make sure they're good mods) because the general market frowns on mods and hence modded trucks are usually cheaper than standard ones - bear that in mind when looking at prices ...... it's not a case of looking at the book price then adding a bit for those lovely mods, it's a case of taking something off the book price ............ :woohoo: free mods.
