Hello and welcome MrMemzi, what's your location?
spend half an hour or probably longer scanning through these forums and you'll get loads of info on the good and bad bits of the Jimny. Early ones have single cam and timing belt later ones twin cam and chain, pre 1st March 2001 12 months road tax = £130 post 1st march 2001 = £210 Ebay is a good source of info on pricing as there are always around 100 for sale all ages and condition, there are a few modded ones on just now if that's what you're looking for.
cheers,
John.

I've a friend on here with a very tidy jimny jlx 2003, twin cam/chain the better engine!
30,000 ish miles, barely a scratch, and no rust at all.
This is a absolute minter and worth a drive up north!. (Preston/Lancashire)

I'd have this jimny off his hands without doubt, but I already have one seriously battered/bruised highly modded jimny and this one is too good for me to thrash/trash. ;-)

I would say its worth travelling for the right one. But i've not got a vitara to shift though ;)

As said above look around the forum for the common problems but don't be too hung up on them, they are generally reliable most of us suffer problems as a result of their use(or abuse). I know people with solely road going Jimny's and have never had a problem with them, not even wheel wobble!.

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!

Hi there,

I'm in Rochford so not too far away!

Have a look at our club site www.4x4er.co.uk .

It's a bit of a treck for you and it's quite damaging (read hardcore) but you'd probably enjoy popping down and seeing what goes on at a pay and play day or at www.essexoffroad.com which is near Chelmsford and is more suited to a standard vehicle or slightly modified one.

I'll not be at our August meet as I'm working and most of the club is away at Slindon on the September meet date, so the September meet might change to a different weekend.

If you see one locally and want me to have a look at it for you, you're welcome. Just send me a PM and I'll pick it up on my emails.

Don't rush to buy one though, this is the right time of year but there is plenty of summer months left yet. Keep an eye on eBay and be prepared to travel a little.

If you plan to offroad it, avoid one with abs and you are right to try to get a twin cam engined one from 2000 on but soft tops didn't get the twin cam straight away - I would personally go for a hard top anyway for the security point of view.
