Recovery points, green laning was created by Dancasey
Hi there, can only afford one pair of recovery points at a time as of now, so which should I have installed first? Rear or front ones? Trying to decide which is more important.

I'll mainly be doing green laning, so I suppose it depends on if there's a vehicle in front or behind me due to the narrowness of the lanes.

Thanks!

My view would be that its easier to select your position in a convoy based on the location of your recovery points than it is to second guess which end s best fit recovery points to first. That said I would do the rear first if you don't have a tow bar.

Whilst I agree with 11/60, I would say front. Although the factory tie down points aren't massively strong, a rear recovery is likely to be more gentle and therefore if your are sympathetic (use a long bridle to spread the load between both sides, don't snatch etc.) you can use the tie down points. Pulling forwards normally means pulling through the obstacle you are stuck against, requiring more force which will require a stronger fixing e.g. proper recovery points.

What about the axles? I was stuck once and some guy recovered me by tying a strap around my rear axle. Albeit I wasn't bogged deep. Is this a dangerous thing to do?

I think a few people have Installed recovery straps on the rear that are not very expensive

Yes but only if you have a good mounting point, ie towbar. :)

I would be in constant fear of snagging that loop on something and either coming to a sudden stop or ripping the bolts out.

Its a soft loop and mounted so it can swing so it just moves about rather than catching on stuff. Most of my offroad is in woodland and its
never hooked on anything so far. It can be folded up out the way until you need it but I have not bothered so far. :)

Cool idea with the loop, you say you need a towbar fitted for it? Is it easy to do?

It don't have to be the towbar but it must be bolted to something well secured or you will just rip it off. My towbar was already fitted so it made sense to use it as a mounting point. Its got a washer either side and held on with a nylock nut so its secure but not bomb tight to allow it to pivot when needed. The "Luke" loops as fitted by the boy racers to the front of there cars are around £15. :)
