I'm having some issues wiht my 2005 VVT Jimny, Button operated transfer box...
4x4h light comes up when button pressed - tranfer case "wuzz" sound can be heard, also hubs "clonk", and light turns solid green.
4x4L aloso engages with no errors.
When going back to 2x4H a firm mechanical "clonk" whith a bit of a shock come out from the front axle while switching when driving.
... then come the funny part - considering that I'm getting poor traction on snow/mud/wet grass, I've looked for traction marks on the ground and to my surprise the front wheels don't have traction. Rear wheels turn like crazy - front ones ZERO.
Any ideas about how to check the system without full dissasembly?

If manually spinning the wheel, when 4x4H is engaged, it blocks the wheel for a moment therefore something happens in the hubs.
I'm thinking of the following test:
- raise front axle from the ground (wheels suspended)
- in 2x4 mode:
- spin each wheel - expected result is that each wheel spins freely without diff and prop shaft to transfer case engaged (confirmation that
transfer case and hubs are disconnected) - if opposite, than hubs and/or diff has issues
- in 4x4h mode:
- try/rotate manually the front prop shaft - expected result is that only few degrees of rotation will be obtained (confirmation that front prop is engaged) - if opposite, than transfer box fails to engage front shaft
- spin each wheel - expected result is that the opposite wheel should turn in reverse (confirmation that diff/rod(s) are working and hubs are locked) - if opposite, that hub(s) are faulty and/or diff is damaged and/or broken rod(s)
- spin both wheels at the same time and same direction - expected result is that prop shaft should turn and if connection is made to the
transfer case, the wheels will rotate only few degrees (confirmation that hubs are locked, diffs and prop engaged). - if opposite, than diff and rod(s) are damaged.
Logically speaking, these should be the simplest way to detect eventual malfunctions.

that's the point of the diff...
Am I missing something?

Yes, differential relies on difference! If the input and other wheel is held then the free wheel cannot rotate eitherflorinelu07 wrote: According to the diff principle, the raised wheel should rotate, except the situation when a diff locker is in place.

So at a first look that the hubs are not engaging (or a least one).
