Poor Jimny was created by 1066Boy
Evening all. Got a phone call today from my other half. Her Jimny ( 2003 soft top G13BB engine) had overheated and was running rough.
On inspection the rad was empty, expansion bottle was full and over flowing. Check engine light on.
My first guess is headgasket gone, pressurising the system. Refilled the rad and drove it home (3 miles)
Run ok from cold but the temp rose quickly when under load going up hill. Water gone down in the rad again and more
has come out of the expansion tank. No external leaks and no evidence of water in the oil. Thoughts?

Head gasket, unfortunately. Time for a 1.6!

Look at it this way, just imagine all the brownie points you will accumulate with the other half by giving her the better engine!

Lots to think about. In an ideal world Kate wants an MX5 convertible.

So your Jimny and her MX5? I hate to say it but I might be in some kind of an agreement with your missus.

You can pick up loads of MK2s and MK2.5 (imo the best generation) MX5s for the same price as a Jimny, if your lucky a clean mk1 can crop up in the 1000-2000 range too, and they are quickly becoming an apprieciating classic. If she enjoys a good b-road drive i'd avoid the mk3, they are a heavier and feel much more like a car and less like a go-kart than the older models.

If you want any tips on what to look out for on an mx5 feel free to drop me a message, I'm a new Jimny owner but have been into mx5s for years and have had various.
