Upgrade advice?? was created by GazT
Hey Guys & Gals,
I have just taken over the better halfs Jimny (1.3L 53plate) to use. I want to upgrade it, engine, suspension, wheels and tyres but have no clue where to start. Nothing too major just some stuff to give the little beast a bit more poke and look a bit better. Any advice greatly appreciated.....Cheers

Hi Gaz. Engine wise the is little you can do to the original. Swap for a 1.6 for more power.
Looks wise, 2" lift and some 215/75/15 tires are a good start.

Will the 1.6 engine bolt straight onto the 1.3 gearbox? Or will I have to upgrade that aswell?

1.6 is one of the best things ive ever done to mine. Make sure you match it to a non VVT engine for the earlier twincam jimnys (2003 for example). Liana's are a common donor for M16 (non VVT) engines. Mine is a VVT jimny so i used a M16a VVT from a swift sport with a throttle body from the liana 1.6 (swift is drive by wire throttle).
You keep a fair amount of parts from the jimny and transfer them to the M16 block & head. All holes you need in the block are there and tapped already, its just swapping it all over until it looks the same, bung it in and fire up. I took the opportunity to swap the clutch while at it. You get around 100bhp from it and a nice boost in torque as well
Theres a good writeup on auszookers site for a M18 conversion (which is exactly the same apart from CC).
