Roof mounted bike rack was created by paradox1001
Hi guys
I need to be able to carry a mountain bike on the roof of my jimny possibly in the future four bikes.
I know the roof rails can not carry much weight due to the end sections being plastic.
Has anyone found a way of doing this?

I’d also be interested in other ways people carry bikes with their jimny.

The entire rails are plastic. Weight limit is 35kg.

There is a polish company that makes a very neat roof basket thing which is much stronger. If your handy its fairly easy to make some stronger cross rails instead that can bolt onto the existing studs (or get a fabricator to make some?).

Dont got for the mounting on the spare wheel type of bike rack as that will do for the back door with more than one very light bike on it. something that attaches to a towbar maybe?

I did start looking at towbar mounted ones

The maxxraxx 4x4 one looks quite good

With the seats removed I can fit 2 bikes in the back. But to save taking all the wheels off I normally put one in the back and strap the other to the spare wheel.

I always worry when I see bikes on car roofs, how easy it would be to gouge the paint lifting it up or down, how easy to forget about and drive into a height barrier on a car park and specifically for Jimny they are hardly stable in high winds to start with, increasing the surface area and centre of gravity at the same time can't be that clever. If I were a cycling type I would be looking at the tow bar type too.

+1 with 11/60.

I have a Front Runner roof rack and learned quickly how much effect even a relatively small amount of weight up top has on the Jimny. It would be hard to keep four down low but I would put as few on top as possible.

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

With four bikes I'd be leaning towards a small trailer?
