Engine M13AA rattle after overheating was created by speedbr
First thanks for accepting me here. I look for help a long time ...
I have a Jimny 2011( engine m13aa ) with 46000 miles and unfortunately my engine overheated.
The problem was a hole in the radiator that caused me to lose all the water very fast ....
After this episode my engine rattle ( 2000-3000 rpm ) only with high load ( uphill ) and engaged and when the engine is hot. In standby everything is normal.
I read a lot about detonation, pinging, timing point and no one can tell me where is the problem.
Analyzing the problem I found the melted detonation sensor and i replace it. If i use a better gas the rattle decreases a lot. There is not water in the oil and i made the compression test.
Maybe some other sensor burn with overheating? Do I need to open the engine to solve? The engine run out of time?
Thanks a lot for any help.

Yes, i lose all coolant very fast. The temperature went up quickly and I stop the car. This moment the engine stop too. There isnt error in ECU, only problem is the rattle under high load, its so strange.

I think asypeer meant "does it lose coolant...now" but it sounds like a bearing gone to me....if it got hot enough could be small end?

Check also your coils, overheating might burn them

Ohh, thanks Keithy ! After change the radiator the coolant level is normal. For check this i made a compression test and the gasket is fine.
Maybe the problem is bearing, but if it is gone i think the noise would occur all the time regardless of the load. That intrigues me ...
Thanks for your help.
