Heater leaking coolant - 2008 JLX+

The heater in my Jim, which has only done 30300 miles, has started leaking. For the time being I have clamped the two pipes. It looks like a pig of a job and might include an A/C ''operation'' too. I was wondering if any of you kind folk would know if it was worth trying a sealant first. I have here Bars and Silver Seal, the latter I quite fancy trying. But ....... many years ago I had a bad experience with a L/Rover by using Radweld. I thought I had better ask advice before I tackled the job.

Pardon me for resurrecting this thread. Many thanks Ollie for replying despite your own Jim problems. What a mess, as seen in your picture. My Land Rover problem would have been more to do with the state of the neglected engine - ex. farmer. It blew a core plug after the treatment. I spent most of last weekend searching the internet for any info regarding rad sealants causing damage and there were none. The only ''bad'' reports were the purchased product, whatever was used, not working. Surprisingly, for me anyway, most leaks were cured and heater and pump leaks more so than radiator leaks. With my original query, I was hoping to find out what was involved with a spanner. I dread to think what it will cost at the local garage. Anyway, thanks again Ollie. I'll probably leave the job until early next winter when my camping season is over and then try the Silver Seal.or Bars. My internet search revealed some USA super sealant called Blue Devil. Looks very expensive and I'm still doing the research on it. Cheers all!

Mustard powder or the white of an egg may help.....possibly tiling grout as witnessed by Ollie..or the eye of a newt?

Easiest way to stop a leak in my humble opinion is to fix it...

The heater matrix in every car is a nightmare...bodging is kinda counter intuitive for me......could be expensive for you if you use whatever was used on Ollie's

''If in doubt do nowt''! Just made that up. You're all right. It's not worth risking the engine for a heater fault that I can live with. Went out in the Jim middle of last week for a couple of hours and it soon warmed up reasonably well, probably just due to my body and the dog (a Yorkie!) radiating heat. Such a small cab. It was just my hands that felt cold so that night I bought some driving gloves for a mere fiver on fleabay. They arrived Saturday. Have a look - first item in the list under the search title ''driving gloves''. Limited stock, though. Many thanks to you all for the advice.
