Towbar advice request was created by Tony L
Hello all,
I'm planning to sell my small motorhome and use my little used 2008 Jimny for towing a Going Go-Pod, which I have ordered. Can anyone out there point me in some direction regarding a decent DIY towbar? Can the electrics (13 pin) be ''plumbed'' directly into the existing Jimny wiring? Where is the best place to find the cables at the back of the Jimny? Any advice, no matter how small or simple, would be much appreciated
Kind regards,
Tony L

Hiya, i fitted one recently, cost me £119.00 complete with electrics, i opted for the removeable ball type, neater when not in use..electrics are simple .. really, in rear left panel on mine, took about half hour to wire in with kit supplied.. bought of ebay from trader.. very good value, not bad to fit, if you follow instructions.. useful accessory..

Built my own, not hard to do if you can weld.it doesn’t have to be a ton of steel remember they only have a small towing capacity.as said electrics can be picked up behind the rear plastic panel on the passenger side. easy to get off.

Be aware that all towing equipment in the UK has to be type approved and meet relevant safety standards. Also with 13pin electrics they are tested as part of the mot and have to work correctly in the same way as the bar has to be suitably firmly attached. 7 pin electrics are only visually inspected and are not required to actually work.

Bought a Tow Trust one off the Bay with the ball and pin hitch.
Bought the genuine Suzuki kit for 13pin electrics from my local dealer. Doddle to fit and was plug and play

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Mine is a TowTrust, with a combi hitch, because the ball obscures the number plate, so I run around with the ball/pin part in the boot.
Took longer to wire the electrics than fit the towbar, best to take the rear bumper off for easy access.
I couldn't change the rear silencer on the drive (might be ok on a lift) with the bumper on though as I couldn't get at the top mount, but it only takes 10 minutes to drop the bumper and work through the hole.
