Buying a Jimny for the 1st time was created by Hewkina
Buying a Jimny 2004 soft top. Viewing today, Any hints or tips to look for gratefully received. Is there an easy way to find out if it has a Cam belt or timing chain ? If Cam belt can you tell when last changed & if timing belt do they have to be changed. If has covered 84,000 miles. It’s the O2 model.
Thanks in advance. Anthony

Engine: will either be a G13 or M13. M13 has a relativey flat top with a plastic bit in the middle and a chain, G13 has all metal top and a belt (i think!) I would have though M13 is most likley

Dont know much about the soft top workings, but would have a good look at the seals. Body wise its mainly rust that kills them so check behind headlights, sills, body mounts, under boot carpet, etc and have a poke at them.

You can look up the MOT history on the DVLA website, which is useful info to go armed with on a viewing ;-)

As it's a Spanish soft-top the bulk of them were G13B even at the "end" of production. This is because a lot of those sold at the end were from a stockpile. Just to confuse things there are some M13A engined ones around which are almost like ones made up from spare parts to finish off production. So some like this are recorded as G13 but have M13
