False economy? was created by Tommy-Boy
Hi fellas

I picked up a Jimny the other day and when driving home i got a engine managment light.... Bloody typical!!

Car has been stood a while and the journey down the motorway is what has put it on i think. Fault code i have is P0012 which i belive to be the cam position sensor?? Correct me if i'm wrong.

So Euro Car Parts can give a replacment sensor for arround £50 but similar parts on ebay for as little as £15. Has anyone used the cheaper units before?

I have had similar issues with an O2 sensor on a jag, and the cheap ebay units although they work the electrical resistance they used was not to the manufactures tollerance of the branded parts and the engine light stayed on.... Which is just frustrating and annoying having the light on when the problem is fixed.

Tommy

Same here Tommy, bought mine last Thursday, seems a common problem though so maybe some experienced feedback here will help as i've found prices vary from £15 -£137.

Euro car parts are probably selling you the same sensor but with more margin. Ask each for the part manufacturer and check them out

In fairness

i reset the fault code and turned off the EML and since then its been fine. I have done a few runs out and up to a good speed and no return of the fault code... but not long enough for the engine to really get to full operating temp.

My car had been stood with a trader for a good few weeks if not months, so maby mine just needed some love and attention, along with a good drive.

If my light and same code return i will return to this thread and update my findings, but i will be going with a tight arse ebay job for arround the £20 mark.
