With the day to myself I finally managed to complete the winch wiring - There isn't enough room in the bumper to mount the solenoid and I wanted it well out of the way of any water coming in too. I got 2m solenoid extension wires then took the solenoid housing apart to re-wire it. It was a bit fiddly getting it all back together but got there in the end. Had the added bonus of not needing to remove the bumper to connect it to the winch like I thought I may have to so got it done in a day (a first me!)

...ooh and it all works! :woohoo: (well except the remote control which will need exchanging [again])

I've mounted the solenoid just behind the washer bottle with self tappers and reasonably happy with it - interested to know where people have chosen to relocate theirs to. Also need some inspiration for a little mount of some sort for my kill switch so if anyone has any ideas?

In other news, I returned from a week away in Wales only to find my silky katana boy has been held up in customs and HM want £30 for the privilege of releasing it! A man can't even buy a 6ft samurai saw these days without having to line the governments coffers!  ;)

Yes mate, I'm feeling pleased that I can move onto some of the other bits now!

I should have read the small print to be fair. Hey ho. I would have bought it anyway because I NEED one.. obviously

Turns out the remote wasn't broken at all. Just needed to read the instructions to realise that you need to hold down both buttons to activate it! Which means the one that Russ kindly exchanged for me wasn't broken either  Best to come clean about these things - he was very understanding. Top service.

Saw arrived.. dog is listening to me now! :P

Thanks mate.

Managed to get out down a little lane that I have near me. quite lucky actually as it's quite a nice little test run the have near the house. Stopped for a few action shots on the way.

This lane is mostly down hill and quite slippy. I've been meaning to try on the way up but there's quite a steep, sloppy section in the middle that worries me. With a slight drop off into some trees on one side. Might work up the bottle to have a go tomorrow! :silly:

That winch cut off switch does look a bit flimsy for winch use. How many amps is it rated at?

Hey Tom

It's this one here

www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winch-access...solation-switch.html

500 amp surge - 12 vdc

Thought that was ok, what do you think?

Cheers
Mark

Probably got fooled by the picture :) . 500 amps should be okay for occasional winching :)
