Jimny 3 Tach/RPM wire was created by Jim Jim
Hi Guys,

I am trying to locate the Tach/RPM wire on my 1999 Jimny, looked all over but so many links are broken and pics missing, anyone knows which wire it is?

The other option is to pull the cluster, measure the RMP input and then trace it all the way back which is a longer process.

Thanks Guys.

I see what you mean....forum software ruins it lol.... It's the brown wire on pin 9.....I had to fit a 1k pullup to it to make a megasquirt show rpm....hth

Hi Keithy,
Thanks for the clarification. Its nice to see someone install a stand along ECU in the Jimny, man you guys did a lot with these, I am guessing you went FI.
I need the RPM input for the remote start sequence, I will see if the remote start module sees the input or if I have to put in a 1K pull up resistor too, will update you when I get to that point.
Thanks for your help Keithy.
Have a great day.

WOW, thats awesome. I have been lately thinking of doing this. I Was wonder what the stock internals and drive line will handle, compression ratio, if there ECU can be remapped for injected models etc.
Very impressive..., I will PM you.

The stock internals are it's weakness.....really weak con rods....and the fact I fitted it all to a worn out engine.

Conflicting stories on whether the stock ecu can be remapped.....dunno.

I used Megasquirt and a buddy tried an arduino which looked promising till he blew it up....finally got his working with 30 psi using a Haltech....it was on the 1.5 engine and after a month or 2 it lifted the headgasket.....not good but it was on standard bolts.

I've a thread in the build section......twincharged trayback next.

Hi Keithy, I expect the stock internals were made to only have enough strength for whats its intended for.
30PSI is quite a bit of boost, thats great. The head gasket will lift if old, the best ting to do is to have the head checked and resurfaced for flatness, change the head bolts to studs like APR studs and use a performance head gasket if they exist for these engines.
Depending on boost, we ten to use thicker head gaskets to lower the compression ratio of the engine for added boost allowance.

I am also looking at doing a 1600cc engine swap with either a Vitara or Baleno engine, both of which we have in abundance here.
From what I have read it seems as though the Vitara engines are easier to swap than the Baleno.
I have to do some more research here regarding that.
I only wanted to boost for some more poop to pass/overtake and for some added torque for towing a small trailer.
Cheers,.
