Thanks to your great advice on here a couple of years ago we bought a Jimny to use for our Farm vehicle to replace a Polaris Ranger and it has been excellent. However a couple of weeks a go when seeing the stock it started miss firing and cuts out as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator. When it surges the check engine light flashes. The exhaust fumes smell of rotten eggs and sounds a bit deeper than normal.
Anyway I opened the bonnet to see if any leads had come off and it all looked fine - started it again and it was back to normal!
This morning it has started again and the trick of opening and closing the bonnet hasn't worked! Any ideas?
Thanks

Would that cause the problem to be intermittent? We have used it for about an hour tonight and it was like it to start with and then it was ok after 10 mins and fine when we finished with it. Can I just cut the cat out and replace it with a bit of straight pipe?

Sounds like cat failure to me also. The best way to describe it is like trying to squeeze ice water out of a bottle the fragments that are breaking up inside the cat move around and intermittently block the flow. Jimnys also have a smaller pre-cat in the manifold which has probably broken up and is blocking the main cat. Abit of open surgery and welding should sort it.
