it's your coil.
Or one of them. This is excactly how my car behaved before the coil change.
You can try to remove the plastic lid on top of the rocker cover and this will cool your coils and probably make the problem less apparent, but will not remove it.. I changed my aft coil as this gets less cooling and it was the one.
It is the heat that gets them.

Bought a cheap aftermarket of ebay at approx 30£
original one was more than 100£ in Norway.

same coil for all suzuki coil-on-plug G and/or M engines i think.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.

I've had 3 m-series Suzuki's that have suffered this problem and every time it has been the crank position sensor. It's a problem that pops up on this forum regularly and 90% of the time it's the crank position sensor.

Brilliant idea about the coil also being a possible suspect... I need to go out and maintain a 50 mph speed over a fair distance to test if its cured it or not, which is easier said than done as its usually at least 20 miles before the fault becomes apparent.. ...
I have torque pro but it did not find any stored fault codes, so im hoping if i plug it in and do my test run that it may catch the fault if it still exists when it occurs...
It will get a motorway test run this sunday so will report back on whether the crank sensor fixed it or not...

I have exactly the same problem. Please can you let me know if the cam sensor replacement cured the problem and how difficult a job it is, or any tips.

Cheers.

If you read the thread the cam sensor did not cure it (5 entries above)!

Yay! The crank sensor fixed the problem ! It wasnt that hard to do either, take alternator belt off, slide alternator away from the engine as far as possible and swop the new for old sensor !
Forums are so great for being pointed in the right direction ! Cheers guys...

Oh and Casey, the cam shaft sensor has to be the easiest ever to replace! A 5 min job..
