205 75 r15 will they fit?

just wanted to say that if the bumper is too close to your tyres, there is scope to remove the bumper and bend the lower bumper mounts out, then refit the bumper gaining extra cm's of clearance.

the bumper easily distorts on the mountings with not much force, as I discovered once after plowing through a deep muddy track

yes, +1 on second to last post; I've had no issues with rubbing on the bumper. I will however, have a check at the distance on full lock and post my findings for you

Hi all. Very interesting looking at the photos. My 2005 VVT has just had a new
set of Yokohama Geolanders in 205 70 15. On half lock the tires only clear the flaps
by about 1cm. Do you think my springs have sagged a bit? Regards Allan.

Halford, thank you for that information. That's what I was interested in. How much work has to be done to remove the bumper (do you have to fiddle with the radiator or some other parts)?

1066boy, my 205/70/R15 Goodyear Wrangler AT/SA tyres clear my front mudflaps by the same amount (10-15 mm) on half lock. So that should be normal.


P.S.: Just a remark to anyone - when 205 / 75 / R15 tyres are fitted, I would not recommend to use snow chains on them, as the risk of contact with the bodywork is significant.
But on the other hand, if the conditions are so severe that you have to use snow chains on a Jimny, you'd better be off with dogsleds.

I recently installed brand new Goodyear Wrangler AT/SA+ tyres in size 205 / 75 / R15.

Here is my experience with that size:

1.
My Jimny was made in 2006, so it has a 2nd generation front bumper (the deep one). The front bumper has also sagged down a bit over the years. It also has front mudflaps.

2.
The preliminary measurements with my previous 205 / 70 / R15 tyres (the same tyre model) indicated tha the new tyres might touch my front bumper and also maybe my front mud flaps when turned at "half lock" (one full steering wheel turn from "straight" position). The calculations said I had only a couple of milimeters to spare.

3a.
Therefore, I took some precautionary measures. I trimmed about 10-15 mm of plastic from the bottom of my front bumper (nobody sees it anyway).

3b.
I also took off the factory plastic cylindric spacers behind my front mudflaps, and sawed off a section of a plastic water pipe, which I cut to be approx 10 mm shorter than the original spacers (I saved the spacers intact so that I can return them to original positions later if needed). I then installed the sawed off part of the plastic water pipe instead of the original plastic spacers.

4.
The measures performed in steps 3a and 3b resulted with a significant "free space" increase around the front wheels.

5.
I installed the new wheels in the larger size.

6.
After driving for about 1000 km in various conditions (highway, city, country roads, gravel, mud, snow blizzards, deep snow), I have encountered no problems whatsoever with rubbing either on front or the back axles, even in flexy offroad situations.

7.
I have not noticed any decrease in car's acceleration performance nor uphill pulling power, as is naturally expected to happen with larger wheels than standard. I attribute that to the rather mild increase in wheel size compared to the original, and also to the plentiful torque of the 63 kW 1.5 dci diesel engine (my Jimny is a factory DDiS edition).

8.
The new tyres look just very slightly larger and more "meaty" to me, but nobody else noticed the difference compared to the old ones.

9.
I got an additional ~ 10 mm of ground clearance, including axle ground clearance, which is a welcomed increase. One centimeter might not be a lot (depending on the subject ), but it does provide some psychological boost during some "edgy" offroading situations, and when pushing some fresh snow around!


CONCLUSION:

I would definitely recommend anyone to upgrade to tyre size 205 / 75 / R15!

I drive a lot on inter-city tarmac roads, and even on highways, and also do regular offroading, and I have not noticed any disadvantage with the larger tyre size, only advantages!

hi Justin they were fine on my 07 plate as that pic, rubbed a tiny amount when down a deep hole but certainly didn't happen very often

If you have alloys at the moment you will need new nuts for the steel wheels but I don't know the measurements I got them from jimnybits

Just phoned jimny bits and they said alloy wheel nuts with a 60deg taper are fine.
