Half Shaft and ABS Ring

As many of you know i had a falling over on my O/S last week (Henryd 26May2010) ... anyway i have sourced an O/S Half Shaft, but its from a non-ABS Jimny ... so therefore it dont have an ABS Ring on it, where as my broken Half Shaft does ...

Basic question is how do i get my ABS Ring off, without breaking it?

My thought is that the half shaft is STEEL, and the ABS Ring looks like Aluminium

Does Aluminium expand 'quicker' than Steel - so if i heat it with a blow torch just the ring, it should 'slide-off' huh? (Lynne wont let me put the half shaft in the oven - :silly: )

I am sure Jamie on this website just applied heat (and the ABS ring is steel otherwise the sensor wouldn't work)

Cheers Martin - of course its steel (doh) as that ABS Sensor is a magnet ... but really shiny-steel (is why i thought it was ally) ..

Yes pal just get it cherry red and it pops off!!!
However, if you get a new bearing retainer from Suzuki, not as dear as
you would think, they come with them allready fitted!!!!

Oh yeah after you have heated the ring up to refit you will need
some bearing fit or you can pip the retainer!!!!

Its not the ABS ring that will be the problem, its the mounting for the ABS sensor.

It fits into a casting on the main part of the axle. Non ABS axles dont have this mount

I just had CAN suzuki send me the wrong axle type for a complete swap out. Thought about moving the ring but the mount for the sensor killed it off.

Axle being returned Tue for a swap out
