Transfer box Auto v manual was created by Pommy
I’ve got big tires on the Jimny 31 10.5 15 this has increased the speed in low range to much. Someone suggested that the transfer box in an Auto was lower geared is this correct ? Big tires required for soft wet ground it’s peaty soils and once you break the surface your gone but have found that when climbing hills that the Jimny is just a bit to quick.

Welcome to the forum. I have sent you a private message. As to the transfer box yes and no it depends on if you have a earlier lever operated box or a newer push button one.

Ah right. If you have a manual transfer box it is already the lower 1.3/2.2 high low. In the Jimny information section at the top of the page there's a wiki with contains all the available transmission ratios so as to mix and match diffs and boxes. Also have a look at a site called grimjeeper it has a gearing calculator.

Hi yes it will fit there's even a cutout in the transmission tunnel for the lever. It will however significantly affect the gearing. The electric one is 1to1 the lever type is 1.3 to 1 so in an otherwise standard vehicle will seriously reduce in gear speed to the point of revving the nuts off it just to keep up with normal traffic. However if you want bigger tyres then it's going to help greatly.

There is a gearing ratio chart with all the different options in the wiki in the Jimny information section on the top banner.
