Well. After selling my old Irish Jimny a few years back and not having a 4x4 to speak of, I decided to splash out and buy another.

Couple of things changed. I'd moved to the UK in search of work a while ago and things have settled down enough so that I could splash out on another....

I'm now Manchester based which is alright I suppose.

And I've bought this thing. A pretty clean 2011 with presumably fake leather and Air Con. Air con is very underrated...

Now, it's been a while since I had one, my old one was the very earliest of M13a engine without the VVT, a 2000 reg.

I always remember the transmission never been quiet on that one. It wasn't the quietest of trucks. This new one has a bit of a whine. You know when you buy something and you have it a few days and you start hearing things and wondering "I've only bought this thing, please dont say there's something wrong with it". I'm sure it's only a bit of a whine from the diff. Cant be heard above road noise/radio at 60. The gearbox is fine, no noises or crunching goes in and out of gear easy enough.

Probably nowt to be worried about right?

Second thing, anyone Manchester based that does a good chassis coating of waxol (or whatever is the favoured protection these days). The Jimny lives in a communal car park and whilst Id have no issue getting dirty with a wire brush, I don't think the management company would be impressed leaving rust all over the tarmac.

I've attached a pic. Will create a my Jimny thread when I get a chance

Same age as mine! It says in the manual that the diff oils are inspection only for the life of the vehicle. I would have them changed if I were you, same for the main and transfer box. The specs and quantity are in the wiki section. Mine is on 94k and other than the odd trim rattle is nice and quiet.

Temeraire (2018 quasar grey automatic)
One of the last 200ish of the gen3s, probably.
ADOS Attention Deficit Ooooh Shiny!

Change all the transmission oils, I went to fully synthetic in both diffs, transfer box and gearbox.

Buzzweld seems to be the preferred rust preventer/underseal at the moment, they have application centres if you look on their website.

Manchester is a good base for off road driving, you're on the other side of the Peaks to me and there's a fair few lanes with countryside that will be as green as home. Have a drive over on the tarmac roads and visit Winnets Pass / Edale valley, reminds me of Cork.

The Cheddar Cheese Inn at Edale is worth a visit if you go over...... a good pint and the pies are special.

Hi. I had my Gen4 done at Rochdale rust proofing in Shaw. Full Dinitrol two layer wax. See page 5 of my thread, link in my signature. They did a very good job.
