Hi all, I am new to this so please excuse any unintended gaffs.
I have a 2008 jimny with 205/70/15 road tyres fitted. I am needing to use the car for my work in the woods and want to put higher profile all terrain tyres on (less damage to rims when I slip by a tree stump). I have no suspension lift or other mods.
My question is can I fit full profile 195/15s on standard 5 1/2 J steel rims without any Mods?
Many Thanks In advance for any advise.

Welcom to the forum.
Yes you can. Have a look in the technical area and there's a sticky on what will fit. Also available in the wiki section in the top banner.

Many thanks for the heads up. I will check it out. I see from the placard that the recomended size is 195/80/15 which by my dogdy maths would have side wall of 156mm which would be an improvement on my 205/70/15s at 143.5mm side wall.
My old samurai had 195/15s ie full 195mm side walls. I am hoping to use the same tyres on the jimny without having to modify it.

Ah . The picture GeorgeC posted is actually of a 2019 gen4 model, the 195 is not a manufacturer recommended tyre on the gen3. It is a modification that fits without further alteration but should be mentioned to the insurance as a modification.

Also typically if a tyre doesn't have an aspect ratio printed on the side it will usually be an 82 not a 100. 85 and 100 are normally marked as such.
Edit. Unless you're looking at tyres with the imperial nomenclature like a 7.50 r16 they are 7.5 inches tall and wide.

Will fit no problem but should be mentioned to insurance company. I found that mine (Admiral) weren't bothered about a change in tyre size if I'd kept the same wheels.

Oh and you should be able to pick up a set of nearly new 195/80R15 Bridgestone Duelers cheap from a Gen4 owner that has gone for 215s, I've only just sold mine.

Thanks guys,
Interesting info. I didnt know that unmarked ratios are often 82 not 100 although I am not surprised.
So it seems my best option will probably be 195/85/15s.
That might have to wait though until I have worn out the unmarked ones I have got already.
Is it ok to change subject within a thread? I have another question on a different matter.

Welcome along.
My understanding for a facelift model like yours is that with either 195/80/15 (which 195R15's are) or 215/75/15's, you will need to trim a little off the rear edges of the front bumper.
A 2" lift is not a big deal to fit to make them fit better and will make driving through woods easier.
