Whilst looking into what, if anything, can be done regarding the apparent over sensitivity of the auto main lights on/off functionality on the Gen 4 (as mentioned here - www.bigjimny.com/index.php/forum/6-jimny.../64819-re-not-common) I came across this in the wiki regarding OBD readers and tools – “It is not currently known if SZ Viewer works with Jimny 4 - someone should try and report.”
Has anyone here tried an OBD reader on a Gen 4 yet? This SZ Viewer looks like a very useful piece of software (not to mention that it’s free) just requiring suitable hardware to interface between the OBD2 port and an Android phone. Can anyone recommend a good interface unit? Presumably what works on a Gen 3 should work with the Gen 4?
All suggestions and especially user experience would be appreciated.

Replied by lee1980 on topic OBD2 scanners and auto light sensitivity.
I would imagine any on amazon etc will work, I got a wifi one for my current car as sure i read apple iphone will only work with wifi not Bluetooth to the OBD.
I have used on 3 different cars, as long as have OBD port should work it, be more the case if the app does not list gen 4 yet.

SInce all car manufacturers have to comply with the minimum compliance standards of OBD now, it should work with main market devices. However, there will still be some "Suzuki only" parameters that fall outside the minimum compliance list that only a scanner specially configured with these parameters will read.

That's why the SX Viewer andrid app is particularly interesting, seems to work with all the "suzuki only" parameters and not just the "minimum". But what hardware is need to interface between the OBD2 port and an android phone?

Just tried SZ viewer on a Gen3 Jimny with a cheap bluetooth module (ELM327 compatible)

Reads all the engine parameters ok and also reads the Airbag system which is an extra compared to my own reader. So it does read some additional parameters.

However being an older Gen3 it does not have ABS/AT/4WD/BCM/HVAC and PS to read as these are all pretty much manual at this era.

If anyone has a Gen4 near Reading I could attempt to read it if it helps?

I should have an ELM327 reader being delivered tomorrow. Hopefully more news then.
