Has anyone checked their tyre pressures?

The label on the drivers door post says 26psi front and rear. Just checked mine with my digi gauge and they are up to 38psi, surely the dealer couldn't get them that wrong?

I would be interested to see what other peoples tyre pressure are set at from the dealer.

This has always been a problem with the Jimny. Garages and tyre fitters never check the required pressure and over inflate the tyres, leading to a bumpy ride and skittish handling.

The garagfe that serviced my neighbour's Jimny did that - it almost put her in the ditch!

After a serious rebuke, they have revised their bad practices

Same here. Valve on one of the tires started leaking, so had to change it. 5min job at the garage, but that was one uncomfortable tire to drive with afterwards. Same thing happened last time i changed tires. We just got to learn to look after this on our own I guess.

Not having had TPMS before, I thought it it have warned of over inflation. Have deflated them down to 26psi now.

Also looked at the PDI tick sheet, couldn't see 'Check tyre pressure' on there.

I'm sure I've read that TPMS warn when tyre pressure drops below a certain preset level.

Yes, I believe the pressure only has to drop slightly to trigger a warning, but you would think it would also warn of over inflation.

Just checked mine and they seem to be between 28 and 30. Will leave over night so cold and if they are this will let some air out in the morning.

Thanks for heads up

Making me smile - funny how few people in the UK never seem to refer to tyre pressures in metric units such as 1.8 bar. Imperial units such as miles and psi (either absolute or gauge) just go on and on. Surprised the recommended pressure is only 26psi, I'd have thought it would have been a bit higher.

You would need to check the handbook but I think its a relative measurement so if the tyre fitter reset the system with the tyres overinflated its not going to know.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

My experience of basic TPMS is that you inflate your tyres to the right pressures, then reset the system.

You therefore “tell it” what the pressures should be.

The system will then warn if tyre pressures drop below this initial setting beyond a defined margin.

More sophisticated versions will show the actual pressures on the instrument panel display.

I've only seen basic ones that trigger on lowered pressure. And I would guess it's like that, because the pressure won't naturally increase in a tire, on the road. Well, unless it gets really hot that is.
