Forget a Jimny as everyday transport for the first 2 years. By the third year the inside of their knees is at the edge of the car seat and their legs hang straight down bent, rather than stick straight out. The significance of this is that the front seat passenger can put their seat back to a comfortable position.

They also rarely need a pushchair by 2 1/2 and when they do a small fold up one is all you need.

As your main family car I recommend an estate like an Octavia too. We've survived 3 years with an E46 BMW 3 series saloon but as has been said above, holidays and nights away have been tricky. When they want to take a bike or scooter to Centre Parks or just away, it gets tight and you don't want that in the cabin to fly about in an accident.

If you can keep it I think you will be pleased you did. I really want to take our soon to be 3 year old Greenlaning this year. I've thought about a Disco 2 but to make it usable on decent lanes it will cost money, when I have a capable Jimny in the garage now.

I got a Jimny and a Grand Vitara for the family. With a new born it wont do with the jimny, with stroller etc. If its just the kid and mother it would do fine but its never just them
