Whilst I agree with everything you have said, I would contend that a pay and play is a better place to be shown the basics as a complete novice with someone guiding you from the passenger seat than trying to keep up with other vehicles when you are totally out of your depth. Once you have the basics then yes gentle laning with an organised group is much better than trying to find the limits in a quarry or such.

Looking on parkwood4x4 dot com it seems to be either the 6th of January or the 3rd of February. it's 35 quid and all your documents, a DNA test, clean P.E. kit and a letter from a parent or guardian to get in.

At the moment I'm sure I'm booked on the 6th so it might have to be Feb. I will seek to confirm.

coincidentally.this months issue of 4x4 (nee Total Offroad) "the pickup edition" - on shelves now - has a North Yorkshire greenlaning 'Roadbook' route in the back...
