Tcase swap was created by Michael-c
Hi I run 215 80 15 remoulds on a stock geared, m13a, 2001 manual hardtop.

I've heard that I could swap in an auto t case to lower gears a touch.

Is this for m13a to m13a or vvt to vvt or interchangeable between the two perhaps??

Im terrible with figures so please if there's anyone in the know out there can you run me by the basics please..

Cheers in advance

As i understand it the only way that a transfer box out of the automatic version helps with gearing is with the push button box of the post 2005 manual cars. What you're after is either a rocklobster or mini lobster.

Been having a look at a few things since I posted and your right mate.
What about a 410 box?

The 410 box (mini lobster) is 1.5 in high box and 2.5 in low

The ratios for jimnys are in a table in the wiki here: bigjimny.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Differential_information

Use a website like grimjeeper to calculate the differences from the current setup to the desired to see what happens.

I think a mini lobster may be too much reduction for motorway use on 28.5" tyres (tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ ). If you have no need for anything over 60mph then should be ideal. I run 31" with the same 1.5 high box and its about right (is have a rocklobster which is 4.3 in low however)

410 box would also require the intermediate prop and an SJ front prop to use for the rear. Also would need a mounting cradle to fit the jimny.

Its worth contacting the god of gearing Richard Redacted (Rockwatt engineering) to see what he could do for you. Facebook is the easiest way to get him.

Another way to look at it is to start swapping the diffs for other ratios, not hard to do and probably cheaper than messing about with the transfer box. Good time to fit a locker as well ;-)
