Probably one of them has both a crank and a cam sensor, and the other has just a cam sensor.

The ones with just a cam sensor have a different number of sensor teeth on the cam to the ones with both, there have been a couple of threads about it, either adding a crank sensor when there wasn't one, or changing the sensor teeth on the cam, depending upon which type of engine the car expects.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Might be worth swapping the cam sensor over with the one from the engine you removed, Just to rule it out.

It's been fettled just a tad.

Changed the cam sensor. No cel light on the dash. The diagnostics computer won't connect to anything in the system

Well done. Was it luck or did you carry out a detailed investigation to pin down the culprit?

we started unplugging sockets on the engine to see would it do anything. we were so out of ideas. still cant understand how that sensor stopped the diagnostics tool from entering anything in the jeeps on board computer
