Hi Roy

It will have a clutch cable. Replacing the gearbox oil with fully synthetic helped with a gearbox problem I had, replacing the clutch cable was cheap and that helped too.

I used comma fully synthetic GL4 MVMTF 75W 90 from Halfords

by all accounts from motoring magazines/programs that have reviewed the jimny the gearchange is not that great and neither is the road driving, compared to other new cars, but what it can do off road more than makes up for it...

Changing the gearbox oil is a good idea but be cognisant of the need to use gl4 oil. Some factors will insist that they have a gl4/5 super clever oil that is suitable. It is not. I had some in my black one for a.short time and once warm it was impossible to get out of 5th and the rest weren't particularly easy to find either. I swapped to a proper gl4 and it has been fine for the last few years. Prolonged use of gl5 is not good for the yellow metal in the gearbox and will cause shortened lifespans.

I've just changed all my oils including gearbox one and shifting has definitely improved and now goes into second gear a lot easier than before.
