Are you running the stock Jimny airbox? The 1.5 Ignis has a much bigger airbox than the 1.3, I think that's a pretty good indication that the 1.3 box is at best marginal. One day I will get around to comparing the Ignis and Jimny airbox sizes.

Some Suzukis and a bunch of motorcycles.

Replied by jimnynatal on topic Swift 1.6vvt engine into a 2007 vvt jimny project
Sorry for my delay, guys!

I promise I'll post photos of my 2012 VVT Jimny running with a 2014 Swift Sport M16 VVT VIS engine.

My package:
Original radiator, original gearbox, original power steering, original air conditioner compressor, original air conditioner condenser, original EVAP canister, Swift alternator, Swift engine with all the sensors, Swift VIS (variable intake system), Swift exhaust manifold adapted (to avoid interference with the engine support base I inverted the sequence manifold - catalytyc converter - pipe curve to manifold - pipe curve - catalytic converter), Swift TBI, Swift injectors and fuel manifold.
I installed a Protune PR440 programmable sequential injection system (www.protuneelectronics.com), and maintained the original ECU to control the car, including fuel pump.

Although the car is running perfectly, I need to install an electronic circuit to convert the signal of the Swift CKP and CMP sensor to that compatible with the original ECU in order to clear DTC alarms, make the tachometer and the air conditioner to work.

The car is so much better, better torque in low revs, really nice to drive.

I'll come back with pictures.

See you!

My 2010 swift engine came with the original swift airbox, which sits ontop of the engine, and is smaller than the jimny one?

Its been done a few times but I think that the issue is not that its a VVT engine but that its a Swift engine, the Liana and Jimny engines are lower revving. The Jimny ECU isn't designed to run an engine at high RPM. The Swift is also a much higher compression which could be leading to timing issues, its possible that you are running into knock issues and the ECU is pulling timing. Alternatively you may not have enough fuel at higher RPM. An ECU will be able to compensate for some fuelling changes using the lambda sensor but once you change the shape of the torque curve then its going to be a lot less accurate in more places.

I did notice when i was first running it that at between 3-4000 rpm the engine was shaking every now and then slightly... would this be the 'knock' you mention?... further more i was a bit underwhelmed by power at higher RPM, but that is to be expected given that ive choked the 1.6 with 1.3 inlet/outlet and ECU.

There is a local specialist dyno tuner who has a rolling road that may be an option?

Im not really up to speed on megasquirt or other ecu type things so would be grateful for some info. I will have a better look at the throttle body when i have time and see what the 1.6 one actually looks like. when i was comparing them i hadnt actually removed the 1.3 one from the manifold so was looking at inlet size (which is identical), and top-down view (identical also).

The exhaust i was thinking of changing to a 4-2-1 manifold possibly and a powerflow stainless behind that, which would need sorted together with throttle body before the dyno tuning. (any sugestions where to source the manifold? - KAP suzuki do one but i believe they are out of favour with some people?!)

I'm willing to stand corrected but.....I don't believe you can adjust the standard ECU.

My Megasquirt has been sent back for some upgrades...Megasquirt3 VVT and launch control etc

I'll document the wiring this time so it should be plug and play for the next person....once the trigger wheel on the crank is changed.

While the 1.6 with 11.1:1 compression has a wee bit more grunt....it's not a patch on having a 1.3 with a turbo......I miss it so much! :(

it's a shame the conrods are made from coat hangers....

Yeah it's the stocker....just too small....even for the NA 1.3 probably.....I'll have a look at an ignis to see how it fits.

So this weekend i had a mate round and we had a look at the throttle body's i have.

The 1.6 liana turned out to be 50mm (as kiethy said), and the 1.3 vvt jimny one was 46mm.

swapped it over - literally bolted straight on, no grinding needed (the hole in the inlet manifold was 55+mm). only pest was loosing some coolant and cleaning the part up :-)

There is a difference for sure, but its not earth shattering. this could be as ive yet to sort out the exhaust setup and gearing properly (next on the agenda gearing).

Also swapped the oil and it looked like it had done a few tho miles but had only actually done just under 200.

Riccy.

Thats a bummer on customs deals, probs wont change much. i enquired and it works out at about £250 inc postage currently, obviously plus whatever HM customs decide to steal
