Tyres was created by AFCBTezza
I recently questioned my 'AA' mechanic friend as to the difference in performance when fitting different-sized tyres to my Jimny - i.e. changing my 205/70 R15's to 195/80 R15... etc.

I got the surprise answer that if you have an accident and your vehicle is fitted with non-standard tyres, your insurance can be voided!!

Needless to say I was shocked!

Anyone else heard this?

ANY modifications away from standard must be declared to your insurance company, as they will use any excuse to avoid paying a claim :( :(

Even if you bought the car with them already fitted you would still have to let them know as some insurance companies don't cover any little mods at all :)

Useful website for comparing tyre sizes: www.mcgrefer.com/sizeinfo/1957015/width-205-diameter-15

I've done an example comparison, but 205/80 doesn't show up. The nearest to that size was 205/75 and you can see quite a difference. The closest size match for 205 width is a 65 aspect ratio, but I remember when I looked myself, there is little available in this size.

It's worth checking this site before buying anything ;)
