Engine braking downhill is limited, to you have to lock it in first.

Is this still relevant for the new Jimny? With the HDC and HAC available is engine braking when going downhill still a problem? Does AT still overheat as before and requires diligent and regular oil changes?

I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. Here in Ukraine they sell SZ5 (called GLX here) equivalent only with AT and SZ4 (GL) with MT. I want all the good stuff that comes with SZ5 + MT but unfortunately that's just not possible. So, I started thinking maybe I should go for AT.

In my case, I would drive at least 100-200 km on a highway before I get to the mountains. In the mountains, I would have to do some proper medium difficulty off-roading. Nothing too crazy but not talking fire trails either. Not planning on using bigger wheels. This would be a weekend warrior, not a daily drive.

My concerns/cons that I see are that AT:

* would overheat in the mountains as I may need to often climb long steep hills (5-7km climbs for example)
* rev up the engine too much on the highway
* it's sort of a minor thing, but still... MPG is a tad bit worse

So, which gearbox should I go for?
